SOM Designer Tommy Nam Wins 2016 MCHAP Student Prize

At a ceremony on October 19th, the winners of the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) were announced at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) College of Architecture in Chicago. SOM Designer Tommy Nam received the inaugural MCHAP Student Prize with his collaborator Yun Yun, for their project titled “(a)typical office,” a dissection and re-imagination of conventional office design.

Founded in 2014, MCHAP is a biennial prize that acknowledges the best built works of architecture in the Americas. The newly established MCHAP Student Prize is awarded to a project by a graduating student that addresses the metropolis through an architectural proposal. The winning project was selected among student submissions from more than 70 universities across North and South America. As a co-designer of the winning entry, Nam will receive a monetary prize. He will also undertake research and produce a publication with support of the College of Architecture at IIT.
