SOM Wins at AIA China Design Excellence Awards

Now in its 5th year, AIA China Design Excellence Awards (CDEA) recognizes the most impactful and notable work happening across China, celebrating China’s best designs and designers. Among the hundreds of entries this year, all three of SOM’s submissions were selected as finalists by a distinguished collection of judges who represent the diversity of the architecture community.

Two of these projects won in their awards categories: Hangzhou GT Land Jumeirah received the Merit Award for Commercial & Mixed Use Architecture Category. Located in an emerging central business district, the mixed-use project comprises a luxury hotel, serviced apartments, office space, and a 7-story retail podium. SOM’s Guangzhou Baietan Julong Bay District Urban Design project won the Citation Award in the Urban Design and Planning Category. Known for its flower nurseries as early as the 9th century, and later as a maritime shipping and manufacturing zone, the site is transforming today into a tech hub and a “living room” along the river, anchored by its history and sense of place.

This year’s Annual Awards Ceremony was held in Langham Hotel Xintiandi in Shanghai on February 11.
