AIA Illinois has awarded the Campus Instructional Facility at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign the Capitol Award, its highest honor.

“A significant model for high performance design as the Urbana campus moves towards a zero-carbon campus,” the new center for flexible learning anchored by the Grainger College of Engineering was also awarded for Excellence in High Performance Buildings (over 5,000 SF category).

The University partnered with Vermilion Development and Campbell Coyle in a highly innovative public-private partnership, delivering the University’s first zero carbon building, achieving net zero operational carbon in its first year.
