由SOM与Mark Cavagnero Associates共同设计,扩建改造后的莫斯克尼中心定将成为明亮温馨的代表性建筑作品。这座位于霍华德大街的城市公共建筑运用透明和半透明材料的合理组合,在使自然光流入内部公共空间、显示内部活动的同时,还为整个街道和周围的公共区域带来了活力。建筑物的横向轮廓以格外优雅的环保屋顶与天际线相接。

扩建后的会展中心将使旧金山的首要行业保持竞争力,创造出数千个新的工作岗位并促进临近地区的发展。莫斯克尼中心目前为旧金山的1,690万游客总量贡献率超过20%,是商业发展的主要动力。随着城市发展和会展场地需求的不断扩大,目前正在对这一重要场所进行扩建,以满足未来需求。

地面以上的增建与扩建将在现有建筑占地轮廓内进行,使得周围空地可以改进并引进新的商家。人性化行人空间将取代原有的2,300平方米(25,000平方英尺)的地面停车场、车辆流线、出口和坡道。该项目将新增超过700平方米(8,000平方英尺)的公共空间,包括一个儿童游乐场地。多个露天阳台可观赏城市美景,或用来接待和其它活动。

莫斯克尼中心扩建之后的游客每人次碳排放量将低于北美其它主要的会展中心。该建筑每年将节约超过两千万升(五百万加仑)的水资源,并依靠旧金山境内最大的屋顶太阳能设施产生清洁能源。该中心将这些可持续性发展理念与设计有机融合,并将申请LEED®铂金级别认证。
