贾特拉帕蒂·希瓦吉国际机场(Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport )2号航站楼建筑面积41万平方米(440万平方英尺),气势恢宏,预计每年可为4000万旅客提供服务,是其前身旅客吞吐量的近两倍。新的航站楼同时提供国际和国内乘客服务,既最大限度提升了航站楼的运营效率,又减少了乘客的步行距离。

受印度传统凉棚形态的启发,这座四层高航站楼建有一个宏伟的“主楼”,或者说是中央手续大厅,下面则是极易调整的模块式通行大厅。这座航站楼并没有划分功能区,所有通行大厅从中央手续大厅向外辐射,因此能够灵活切换国内和国际航班服务。

虽然该航站楼可谓代表孟买这座新兴国际化高科技城市的模范建筑,但其结构也融入了孟买当地的环境、历史和文化特色。根据印度的传统风俗,常有许多亲友一同迎客和送客,以表达他们的祝福,因此航站楼边预留了宽敞的落客区。外,当地传统图案和质地也在各种不同尺度上巧妙融入了航站楼建筑设计。从主楼立柱和房顶表面明显的花格镶板处理,到让通行大厅形成斑驳光影的精致的迦璃镂空窗格,2号航站楼展现了现代与传统完美结合的潜力。

该项目也对当地产生了重要的积极影响。不仅该航站楼融入了既有的交通网络,为服务机场交通而与航站楼同期建设的新道路网也令孟买的交通布局进一步完善,加强了南部一直属孟买心脏地带的区域与东部和北部新兴边缘地带的联系。
