On Thursday, July 26th, AIA Los Angeles will host a tour of the Awesomeness headquarters in Santa Monica, California. SOM designed the interiors of Awesomeness, a global media company known for its youth-focused programming. Its headquarters covers 78,000 square feet in one of the buildings of Pen Factory, a former manufacturing facility that SOM transformed into a contemporary multi-tenant creative office complex.
In designing Awesomeness, SOM created a campus-like environment with interconnected public and private spaces for more than 500 employees. Open and closed workspaces, a screening room, production and post-production areas, two filming stages, and other areas accommodate the production of daily shows for YouTube and other channels. ?Artwork and graphics throughout the space promote the Awesomeness brand and culture. The design of the office also references the industrial heritage of the building—it was once a Paper Mate pen factory—and speaks to the network’s core audience. ?
