As a sustainability director based in San Francisco, Shona O’Dea guides design teams and clients to implement a holistic approach to sustainable building design, from indoor air quality to operational carbon. A leader of SOM’s Sustainable Engineering Studio, she advises clients on sustainable goal-setting. Working with design teams, she uses building simulation to quantify energy savings and understand the interactions of building design with the mechanical systems and with the environment.
Beyond building simulation, Shona brings her expertise to holistic building performance master planning. Her focus is on reducing the carbon footprint and water use of building portfolios, while also ensuring occupants can thrive in healthy spaces. She challenges design teams to develop innovative solutions for high performance design and provides data for actionable intelligence.
